Well done on a fantastic first time editing! You also did well to learn how to do after effects.
I would suggest for a thriller, thinking about pace and variation for your next one. Drawing out some moments is very effective but to have most shots long takes away the impact of shots you want to focus on for effect. I really like the lighting you used, the setting, the sound effects and the narrative structure. I think the reveal of the person in the boot is fantastic.
Music could be another technical aspect that you play around with to find something that builds and has a bit more variation to it, perhaps? Overall you did some great layering to provide tension to moments that were building up in danger, like the cleaning of the knife and opening of the boot.
Fading or cutting to black works in certain instances but I'm not sure if the cut to black mid-scene achieves anything that add's to this thriller sequence. I feel like continuity-wise, you would have been better off to have the story flow quite fast, keep shots quite fast-paced with your editing and linger on big reveals of danger such as the knife and car boot.
